  • Pop/Rock in commercials

OK, that was odd. Just saw a commercial for something called "Swiffer WetJet" which used the old Devo tune "Whip It" as the commercial theme.

What's your favorite (or least favorite) use of a hit song in a commercial?

Any Beatles song prostituted out by Michael Jackson after he bought the catalog out from under Paul McCartney a few years back, particularly given Mr. McCartney's vociferous opposition.

Although I haven't noticed one recently, for a couple of years Burger King was doing a good job of bringing back some of the oldies.

I found it ironic when Jaguar used "London Calling" in a commercial. The Clash were about as anti-corporate as they came.

I forgive them, but I feel they sold out for dong that. Possibly the fortune made in the 70s & 80s is gone and steps had to be taken. I do not know.

Led Zep song used to sell Cadillacs? Imagine THAT happening 20 years ago!

Carnival Cruise Lines using Iggy Pops "Lust for Life" and ATT Wireless using the Ramones' "Blitzkrieg Bop" makes me feel really old

I can't think of any commercials right now.
            so shut up Whos!

But I'm still trying to get over being in an elevator in Orlando the other day and hearing Jethro Tull.

The original Michael Jordan commercial for the first Air Jordan used (illegally) the Beatles' Revolution.

              That was cool.

Okay I've gotten over the elevator incident.

My favorite is that Gap commerical using that Troggs song... it took me a week to figure out what that one was.

I like the Heintz commercial where the guy is sitting there waiting and waiting for the ketchup to come out. In the background is a Carlie(sp?) Simon song.

                  Anticipation......Anticipation....it's making me

I really do like the new H2 ad using The Who's "Happy Jack", a nice sense of whimsy. But when we growing up, did you ever think that you would here a Who song in a commercial?

Also, I like the song used in CSI on Thursdays. Not sure of the title though.

he didnt buy the catalog out from under paul. he outbid him. paul can cry all he wants to about it, if he wasnt such a tightwad it never would have happened. $50 million measly dollars for a catalog valued in the billions!

Correct. But it doesn't change the fact that Michael Jackson is as bereft of ethics as c^rt. What he has done with that catalog is beyond sleazy.

CSI (Las Vegas) uses "Who Are You" as the theme. "CSI: Miami" uses "Won't Get Fooled Again."

I'm guessing Jerry Bruckheimer is a Who fan. . .

wrong. he owns it, he can do what he wants with it. paul and yoko had the same chance to buy it that he did, and they decided it wasnt worth the money. what he has done with that catalog is increase its value from 50 million to over 2 billion in less than 20 years.
