What do you think that proved other than the fact that Conservatives are more delusional than liberals when it comes to a bias in the media??

But before you spend too much time trying to make something of a poll on American public opinion let me just remind you that just a couple months ago over 70% of Americans thought Iraq had something to do with the attacks on 9-11.

Americans tend to believe what is being suggested to them over and over. And message focused conservatives have been saying that the media is biased every time they don't see them promoting conservative poloticians or conservative ideas... for decades with nothing but chuckles coming from the left.

Conservative ideas?? There I go again... another one of dem Jumbo Shrimp thangs.

I am biased against all media, all TV networks, and all politicians.

        I think they're all idiots.

The media and networks only cares about profit, not about what really matters. Witness the snow job we got over the media consolidation issue.

The politicians are more interested in themselves than in the public good.

45% of the population believes the media is too liberal. That isn't just some fringe ultra-right wing Birch Society members saying it. Its 45% of the population.

          "7 months ago blah-blah-blah..."

This 45% figure has held its own for four consecutive years. I can only imagine what it was before the invent of Fox News.

"Americans tend to believe what is being suggested to them over and over. "

That's a fundamental difference between liberals and conservatives. Conservatives tend to believe in the American people being smart enough to determine their own destiny. Liberals think people are stupid and need Democrats to think for them.

Ha!!! I love getting to finally generalize!!!

That is true if you look at the media as a whole but that is ignoring the individual members of the media. CBS may only care about profit but Dan Rather sure doesn't care about anybody's profit but his.

So that's why Conservatives are defending the Electoral College.. that conservatives tend to believe in the American people being smart enough to determine their own destiny??

Your whole logic system tends to switch from issue to issue... have you ever noticed this?

His profit is based on keeping his bosses happy.

His bosses profit is based on keeping their bosses happy.

Cut a long story short, the big bosses look at profit.

                  Consider it trickle down economics.

As far as the American people, after the last few years, it's hard NOT to underestimate their intelligence.

They can't use a ballot 8 year olds can use?

They're electing movie stars to office?

As long as we get our Big Mac's and our TV is free, we don't care...

Huh? I read a great article in the old Omni magazine (anyone remember that?), which explained how the Electoral College increases the importance of each vote. It also decreases the effect of regionalism.

In other words, it provides a president elected by a more diverse group and increases the chance of a single vote making the difference (see the year 2000).
No weather forecasts are ever guaranteed, even if confidence level is high. Even a 99% probability will miss 1% of the time. That's the best anybody can do when predicting highly complex events.

Decreases the effect of regionalism?? What it does it decreases the value of your vote if you live in a highly populated state and increases the value of your vote if you live in a rural state.

California had a higher population and even more diversity than American had when the Electoral College was set up but they seem to work just fine electing a Governor or Recalling a governor with the one man one vote system. Still the Electoral College wasn't set up to decreace the effect of regionalism as horrible as regionalism is (what??). But rather to insulate the election of the president from the voice of the people, a people who many of our forefathers didn't have a lot of faith in the people's ability to make an informed decision. That and the electors (all party big wigs) all making their way to Washington every four years was always a good excuse for one heck of a party.

The electoral college is there to prevent the kooks in New York and California from determining the direction of the whole country.
