  • OT- Wow!

I had a great day today and here is why with a little story. Since I was a little girl, my dad has loved to watch planes fly and do stunts at the yearly air show. Well, I think he went a few years ago without me but this weekend I asked if he wanted to go since it was an non-IRL race weekend. We went to the air show today and got to see (pardon my spelling please) a Lear 23 jet, the BlackHawk heliocopter again (saw 4 at By400), the Steath bomber (twice this year thanks to the Indy 500), stunt planes , other planes and the best part was watching the BLUE ANGELS!!!! I think I got a new love this weekend of watching the Blue Angels. I thought our IndyCars were fast and awesome and this weekend the Blue Angels amazed me. I heard the Narrator say Indianapolis 500 which I think he was mentioning our own RBM but did not hear the first part but the guy that Robby flew with is listed as the Narrator on their site.

I know it's OT but let you young kids see them if they come near you cause they are just awesome!

...the Blue Angels were making their 1st appearance back in Indy at the Mt. Comfort Air Show since 1986.

They were streaking all over the skies on the southside of Indy Friday afternoon.

They're definitely worth the price of admission to the show alone, a must see for everyone at least once in their lives.

I know what you mean, Jewls. The Blue Angels have been buzzing our office campus at the former Fort harrison all week. Friday afternoon, they were flying in a tight formation literally just a few hundred feet in altitude. The birds looked huge, and they were in a tight diamond formation.

They broke into a 90-degree turning bank, looking like a school of fish changing direction. Within seconds they had disappeared behind the Finance Center building.

In a few seconds more, they appeared again, only this time inverted with cockpit canopies reflecting the streaking landscape.

I have seen both the Blue Angles and the Thunderbirds. They were both pretty good.

For what its worth I don't know but it's been said that Navy wings are made of lead. I don't know but I've been told that Air Force wings are made of Gold.

Jewls, we saw the Blue Angels here in Austin a few years ago, and it was an awesome show, very, very impressive. The one that snuck up on us from behind gave us quite a start.

We also saw the JATO C-130, which was pretty cool, also.

Since my father-in-law was in the Air Force, we have gone to several air shows, and have never ceases to be amazed, not only by the warplanes, but also by the stunt planes.

We also liked the A-10 demonstration, and the MiG 15.
Haven't seen the Black Hawk or Stealth in person.

Sounds like you saw a great air show.

you'll get what you've always gotten.

I learned a new perk of my new house. I can sit in my back yard and watch the Blue Angels act (well, part of it) and not deal with the traffic. They flew right over my house several times this weekend.
For the record, I never had a problem with CART in 1995. Its when they turned beligerant twards IMS and their fans for supporting the IRL that turned me off them.

I am the same way. I live about 4 miles I think from the airport and we are in the window for the show and we always know when it is as we hear them fly around. The Blue Angels flew by my house yesterday and Friday. My dad said they went right over our house yesterday. I was not at home as I was taking a web design class. THe Harriet (spelling) jets went buzzing along U.S. 40 and so low on Friday and was so cool. The Blue Angels fly around before their part of the air show is right by my house Friday (along U.S. 40 like the jet) and yesterday over our house before getting to the airport. Mom said something came by the house today which I think was the Blackhawk on the way back t Shelbyville. What I liked too was the Blue Angels support plane. They have jets that let them take off quick which was cool.

One of the Thunderbirds crashed, yesterday, at the airshow at Mountain Home AFB in Idaho. The pilot ejected OK and no one on the ground was injured.

The Blue Angels practice over my shop twice a week.
                    Forty weeks a year.

I have known many a Blue Angel pilot.
Have not met one I did not like.

I'll never get over the thrill of watching them.

If you are ever in Pensacola.
They practice every Tuesday and Wednesday.
I have spent more time here than I did in school.

My office used to be 19 floors high in Chicago's loop (Monroe and Clark side) right next to the window. My favorite thing all year would be about thursday before the Air and Water show to see the planes practicing their formations. They would dip down in between the building's sometimes, it was incredible. Sometimes it seemed like we could look the pilots right in the eye.

I wonder if they still allow them to do that.

I didn't get much work done those afternoons.

Thanks for the good words on our air show-benefits Riley Hospital for Children-our entire group are volunteers which have put this event on for 7 years now. Next year's show dates are 9/11--9/13. It looks like we will again have a major jet act......T-Birds!

Ever flown into San Diego's Lindberg Field?

Final approach threads the downtown buildings while trimming the tree tops of Balboa Park.

It's known as the carrier landing of international airports. Washington National is another major airport with arresting cables. (well, almost!)
