  • Nasty virus alert

My mother sent this to me.........................

    Very Urgent!!!!!!!...

PASS THIS ON TO ANYONE YOU HAVE AN E-MAIL ADDRESS FOR.

If you receive an email titled: "It Takes Guts to Say
    Jesus"
DO NOT OPEN IT. It will erase everything on your hard
    drive.
This information was announced yesterday morning from
IBM; AOL states that this is a very dangerous virus,
    much worse than
"Melissa," and that there is NO Remedy for it at this
    time. Some very sick
individual has succeeded in using the reformat
    function from Norton
    Utilities
causing it to completely erase all documents on the
    hard drive. It has been
designed to work with Netscape Navigator and Microsoft
    Internet Explorer. It
destroys Macintosh and IBM compatible computers.

This is a new, very malicious virus and not many
    people know about it. Pass
this warning along to EVERYONE in your address book
! and please share it with
all your online friends ASAP so that this threat maybe
    stopped. Please
practice cautionary measures and tell anyone that may
    have access to your
computer. Forward this warning to everyone that you
    know that might access
    the Internet.

I hate to say this. But, not everything your Mom says is true

      http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/ven...esus-hoax.html

This one is a HOAX meant to cause undo concern. That said, you should never open ANY unsolicited email unless you trust the sender. And even if you do trust that person, you aren't safe. One of the IRL teams sent us a virus earlier this year.

Keep your virus software updated, and HOPE you don't catch something.

The biggest single item to prevent a virus infection is "DO NOT OPEN ANY E-MAIL ATTACHMENTS". You might know the person sending an attachment but it could contain a virus.

I have a nasty one, apparently. Things keep popping up on my screen telling me that Hornish has left Panther. I have run McAfee two or three times now, and still can't get rid of the thing.

I'm Media Director at a large church and get the "It Takes Guts..." e-mail SEVERAL times a year, among other hoaxes. I've learned people will pass along anything that has the slightest resemblence of truth to it, without checkout the facts first. It's human nature to want to help others.

Two sites I use extensively is www. urbanlegends.about.com and www.snopes.com when I get an e-mail of this nature.

A ship in the shallow could crack on the reef.
But only ashore is it safe where it is built
And only ashore is it useless.
