    Tournament schedule.

On March 15 the 32 teams will have a random draw into 8 groups of 4 teams.

In the 1st round you play the other 3 teams in your group which result in the top 2 advancing to the 2nd round while the bottom 2 advance to a consolation 2nd round.

In the 2nd Round you carry over the one game already played against the team from your first group plus play the other 2 teams from the other group. This occurs in both the advancing group and the consolation groups.

After Round 2 the consolation groups are done. For them the teams that finish 1st in the 2nd Round secure seeds 17-20. The teams that finish 2nd in Round 2 secure seeds 21-24. 3rd place secure seeds 25-28, and 4th place secure seeds 29-32

In the winners bracket after Round 2 the top 2 teams in each of the 4 groups advance to the quarterfinals, then semi-finals and Championship The nations that failed to advance in the Round 2 winners bracket seed 9-16

As the 32 teams prepare for the World Cup they have 2 chances to continue the Olympic goal.

        1) Be the top or top 2 finishing teams in your region for a automatic bid to the Olympics

        2) Failing that finish in the next 16 teams to advance to one of the 4 last chance Tournaments. Basically if Japan finishes in the top 24 then to continue you need to finish in 2nd place in the 2nd Round consolation tournaments or better.

For nations that failed to make the World Cup like Uruguay the options are limited. If all 7 America teams finish in the top 24 then 2 more America teams like Uruguay will get a invitation to the Last Chance Qualifiers tournament. However if for example only 5 of the America teams make the top 24 it will depend on the World Rankings of the 2 that failed at the World Cup vs those that are sitting on the sidelines.

FIBA just announced the 8 number one seeds for the Qualification draw occurring on the 15th of March. What this means is these 8 will be put in the number one spot in the 8 groups then the others will draw.

Argentina, China, France, Greece, Lithuania, Serbia, Spain, USA

I am sure the other 24 teams hope to draw a spot in the China group !
