  • V-J Day Kiss

A man who claimed he was the sailor in the photo has died.

Glenn McDuffie's claim that he was the man in the World War II picture was backed up by a police forensic artist.

He probably should have asked her before he planted the kiss on her, but it's a great photo nonetheless.

That's one of the stories about that event, but it's far from the only one. There have also been claims from people claiming to be in the photo that was it actually staged by the photographer.
Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who is the Keenest of them all?

Sure, though the woman in the photo has steadfastly maintained through the years that she was basically grabbed without warning and had a kiss planted on her. I give that version of events a lot more credence than I do versions of people on the periphery.

It's still an iconic shot. I just feel badly for her that this famous photo of her that keeps popping up basically shows some dude forcing a kiss on her.
