  • Caribbean Vacation

The wife and I would like to take a one-year anniversary trip to a Caribbean island.

Any good places that any fellow TFers would recommend? We went to the Dominican Republic for our honeymoon last year.

    Thanks in advance.

Ask cheeseczar if you can tag along with him---but i don't think he wants to be gone for a whole year.

I hear Richard Branson's place is really nice.

Necker costs $60,000 a day, it includes a calypso band.

Are you looking to cruise, or fly to an all-inclusive type place?

What sort of things do you like? Are you looking a place with an active night life? Fine dining? Golf and other activities or you just looking for beach time and basically doing nothing. My Wife & I go to Tortola in British Virgin almost every year and we love it. Its about 20 miles from Bransons Necker Island. However its a bit of a hassle to get to and its fairly primitive but the beaches are great and numerous.

I enjoyed sailing for a week in the British Virgin Islands. That was one of the most relaxing vacations ever. There were 6 of us. We were on a 52 foot ketch and had a young captain and an English cook aptly named Jane. The captain was smitten over Jane who was heading home to England right after the cruise.

Fly to an all-inclusive place. Will probably be there for only 4 days, so want to something that has beautiful beaches and to relax.

All-inclusive place to do nothing but read, drink Miami Vices and relax. We will only be going for 4 days, 3 nights, so probably want a place that is somewhat easy to get too.

Make sure you go to a couples-only place like Sandals, then. Wouldn't want your relaxation to be interrupted by screaming children. But you probably already knew that

On a trip there a couple of years ago there were 2 young, extremely attractive British girls staying at our apartments. They were there training to be charter sailboat captains. One would sail while the other would cook. One look at them and their plan and you knew their future was totally set.

We've been going to Grand Bahama on and off for 20 years (Ocean Reef Yacht Club). It's seriously laid back and nothing like New Providence.
If beaches are your idea of a good time, it's great. If you want night life and such, I'd consider other islands.

On a good day you can hit Gold Rock beach and have the entire stretch to yourselves. It's amazing. Miles in either direction.

Have fun wherever you end up!

I spent two weeks in Andros last summer, also nothing like New Providence. The Bahamas is really just amazing.

Not an expert but I don't think anywhere in the Caribbean is easy to get to, except San Juan. The last all-inclusive we went to was the Riu Palace in Puerta Vallarta, and we loved it.

Many of the islands have direct flights from Miami, Atlanta, Newark, and several other hubs.

If it were me, I'd probably go to Sandals in Negril.
