  • High Noon Thursday: USA vs Canada women's hockey

For the gold. Hopefully these refs, unlike the refs in their first game, will know how to count to 7. At least 3 times in the first game Canada had too many players on the ice. They were not called for it until they did it very late in the game. One of the announcers said "They finally called it."

These are far and away the 2 best women's teams. No one else is even close.

I heard that the IOC had to publicly announce that women's hockey will remain an Olympic support despite how uncompetitive it is.
No weather forecasts are ever guaranteed, even if confidence level is high. Even a 99% probability will miss 1% of the time. That's the best anybody can do when predicting highly complex events.

It is getting more competitive. there is still two tiers.

Looking forward again to this game. May the best team win. If they don't then may the Americans.

I probably mentioned this last Olympics, but my wife taught Jessie Vetter in middle school which is fun for her. It was great when we ran into her at a Badger football game and she was really excited to see her former teacher. She was there with the team being honored for I think their second national championship and was pretty much regarded as the best goalie in the country already and a lock for the next Olympic team, but when people run into their former teachers they frequently become little kids again and she was really excited to see my wife. Jessie is a really nice person and comes back to the school district every year or two to talk with the students. She doesn't just do a speech in the gym, she will spend the whole day going to different classrooms speaking to students and encouraging them to succeed.

It has taken much of the country a long time for women's hockey to take hold. The college powers are basically all in the WCHA and have been since it started, so it isn't surprising that it is taking the rest of the world awhile to catch up. But, they will eventually. Just not this year. No matter which team wins, a Badger will get the gold (two of which have been featured in that other thread if memory serves...).

I saw most of the 3rd period of Swiss - Sweden this morning. That 3 period was great hockey. And the Swiss had played better against Canada than USA. One of the best Swiss players, sorry do not remember her name, is only 15, and she won a bronze medal this morning. No way that young lady will have to pay anything for college.

I agree! It's a very well played game and the US now has a 1-0 lead late in the 2nd period.

IMO, it's not the US and Canada's fault that they are the best in women's hockey. It would be unfair to drop the sport because other countries can't keep up.

Agreed and other countries will get there. Takes time for a traditionally male sport to take hold in many areas.
