At least that what everybody thinks it is the first time they spot it along I-4 just east of Lakeland Florida. Personally I've been of the opinion that it's gonna be the biggest Truck Stop since Little America, Wyoming. I just think it was designed by the guy who did the set design work for the Alien movies. But that's just my best guess.

OMG! I was totally wrong. It's the first building being built for the Florida Polytechnic University campus. Where eventually all of the buildings on campus are going to be of similar design. Plus that outer skeletal feature will be hydraulically operated to shield the open views of the building behind and underneath it from the sun.

Yes, my son got his degree in Computer Science from USF and I remember when that State Senator first started talking about splitting off from the Lakeland campus and making it Polk County's own 4 year school that everyone thought he was nuts. Especially students who feared that it would make their degree worth less if it didn't say USF. My son took 75% of his classes at the Lakeland and Winter Haven campuses and just 25% in Tampa at USF's main campus. But when I started this thread I seriously thought they were building a truck stop being so close to the junction of I-4 and the Polk County Parkway tollroad. It was only in following a link after I started this thread that I found out what it really was.

I guess that State Senator had more pull than anybody realized getting the funding through when the state was cutting everything else.

Nah, it's for similar reasons that Frank stated; I'm a USF student too. The former USF campus in Lakeland is now rebranded, and I'm just pissed that I have to drive to Tampa instead of literally 5 minutes from my house to the former Lakeland campus.
