    300 sickened aboard the ship.

Yet more fuel for me to keep saying no to my girlfriend wants to go on a cruise with me. I'd rather just fly her to nice places and walk around than sit around on a large boat loaded with chances to get sick.

      Natural Born Cynic

What irks me (maybe its too soon for the truth), DW was a 16-oval WIN specialist, yet the vast majority those boohooing for him, hardcarders & fans, alike are the same ones trying to kill anything with more than 9 deg banking & 4 corners, where Dan ultimately made his home...

Oh for goodness' sake, it's just the stomach flu. If people would wash their hands, they'd be fine.

been on 10 cruises, never had an issue. They act like this is news.

I am the same way. The thought of being herded around with a bunch of people doesn't seem pleasant to me.

Norovirus. The reason it's news is because it happened to 300 people at one setting so to speak. In a closed area like a cruise ship, it spreads rapidly.

I've been on a cruise in the past and it's not one of my favorite things. You know, I wonder if this happens on a destroyer, cruiser or carrier in the Navy? You never seem to hear about that, but as it's the military, perhaps that's a military secret.

It's just a stomach bug though. It sucks royally, but it's hardly life-threatening and not really news. These people knew the risks before getting on the boat. I know it could happen, it just usually doesn't, hence why I wouldn't ever worry about it when going on a cruise.

                    Cruse cut short.

A 10-day Royal Caribbean cruise ship will return two days early after an outbreak of gastrointestinal illness, the cruise line said Sunday.

It's too bad that the cruise was cut short for the people that were actually smart enough to wash their hands.

Maybe it was the crew of the S.S. Floating Petri Dish that wasn't washing their hands. If that's the case, nobody had a chance.

There were so few crew members who got it against so many passengers that did, I'm not buying that.

Norovirus is usually caught from eating food infected by a food preparer or server. It only takes one crew member. It happened here in Minnesota just last week at a sports banquet at a country club where 70 people came down with the disease. You can wash your hands all you want but you probably will not have that opportunity once you sit down at the table. My wife came down with it on our Med cruise. The ship's have little tolerance in handling such an outbreak. They confined her to her stateroom and a special crew came in to clean, disinfect and change everything out. But once it really breaks out there is little to control it. Wash your hands as much as you can but that will not guarantee immunity if the food is infected.

I saw a TV show a few weeks ago about a just launched cruise ship. It has features specifically designed to fight sickness among the passengers. The ship's laundry is equipped with special plastic bags for dirty linens. The linen is placed in the bags in the guest cabins, and the bags are put into the washing machines. The bags melt in the water, which is boosted to 160+ degrees to kill all bacteria.

                              Pretty neat idea.
