  • My son is going to college!

We received notice yesterday that my son has been accepted into Virginia Tech and we couldn't be more proud of him. He will be majoring in Mechanical Engineering with a Minor in Business.

But, what he is most excited about is becoming a very active team member of the very successful Formual SAE program at VT. We were fortunate enough to get a private tour of the Formula SAE shop last weekend and we were extremely impressed. They run a very professional program with support from many automotive and electronic businesses across the country. As a racer himself we spent a good bit of time bench racing, which was very cool.

    Where did the time go?

Congratulations! My son is a freshman at Missouri S&T. He looked into their Formula SAE program but found the student participation was too large for him to make a difference as a freshman (over 600 students participating). He is instead working with the Baja team which is much smaller. On a side note, the F-SAE student leader from three years ago was hired by one of the Big 3's race support group during one of the F-SAE events. Their car suffered major problems and instead of packing up, or panicking, this young man kept his cool and worked the problem until they were able to get the car back in the race. The company reps were so impressed they set up a phone interview for him after the event in the pits and he left with a firm job offer in hand. F-SAE is a very good proving ground for these kids to learn. Good luck to your son, and oh, yeah. You are going to enjoy moments like this.

Mess with me and you mess with the whole trailer park.

600! Wow! VT has around 100 students on their F-SAE team. Their baja team was carrying out their frame for powder coating when we were there. The team leader that gave us the tour was very proud of the fact that many of the team members end up with firm job offers by the time they graduate. Ford has had the most interest in recent years.

Mom and I are very proud. He's been a stellar student from day one and to see it pay off is very fulfilling. For all three of us.

"I didn't hear a single comment about airboxes, "carbashians", or how terrible the car looked. I did see dozens and dozens of little kids in awe of the speed and how cool the cars looked. We should learn from our children."

                  Yes, very solid. Congrats.

                  Step-Brother and Sister-In-Law are Hokie grads, so I guess I have a tie-in there(?)

Thanks everybody. We're still all very excited. New student information packets are already arriving. Going to move quickly. And he still has a semester left to go in HS!
