Honestly didn't know they kept it in service clear into the Carter Administration. I guess you don't just retire an expensive and specialized asset like that, no matter what its history is."Only a fool fights in a burning house."-Kang
"If you listen to fools....The Maaahhhhb Ruuuules....."-Ronnie James Dio

Like I said, a long time ago. The Ford Rouge Plant tour took us thru the engine assembly plant, the steel mill, and the Ford assembly line.

The Henry Ford Museum is a must see. I grew up on the west side of Detroit (Warren Ave and Rouge Park {not near the Rouge Plant at all}). My dad and I would go at least once a month during the 60s. It all very professional now but my earlest memories are rows and rows of cars just sitting there with little descriptions. The last time I went, it seemed like there was a 10th of the cars I recall being displayed. One section I recall from my last trip 5 years had Jimmy Clark's Indy winner, the 67 Ford GT Mark 4 (Foyt and Gurney) and one of the two mid engined Mustang prototypes built by Troutman and Barnes for Ford. It has those Lotus style "wobby web" wheels on it. A very pretty "could have been". Also on the Greenfield Village grounds, there was a shed which contain experimental engines that Henry senior built as proof of concepts or just for his interest. One could only look though the dirty windows to see inside, but I do recall a radial engine. Maybe it was from Henry's Flying Fliver project, the Model T for the air minded.

I've been there many times, as kid and as an adult. I grew near there and later bought a house about 10 minutes away. I think every kid that grew up in metro Detroit has gone there during field trips. It's a really cool place, if you haven't been there, I highly suggest you go there. It's more than just an indoor museum.I like Ren and chevy. I don't care much for djski. That's my 'scientific' poll of one. - -Mannishboy-
