Four of the 80 Doolittle Raiders are still living...

I read that there are only 4 surviving members and only 3 were able to attend...?

Thought that this was pretty neat

" Twelve-year-old Joseph John Castellano's grandparents brought him from their Dayton home for Saturday's events.

"This was Tokyo. The odds of their survival were 1 in a million," the boy said. "I just felt like I owe them a few short hours of the thousands of hours I will be on Earth."

At the time, that raid was a proud moment in American history.

It is not very often that I am speechless.

All I can say is that the ceremony was stunning

I cannot even begin to fathom the extraordinary courage it
took to climb into one of those airplanes... The chances of
survival nil, at best... Anyone that's ever got in one of them
flying "prostitutes", knows what I am talking about...

Brave, courageous men... Doolittle was a remarkable man,,,

Doolittle grew up in Nome, Alaska; his dad was a miner and his mom was a school teacher.

We're not talking B-26 Marauders here. The B-25 was much better equipped for such a short takeoff run into the wind, once lightened. I've felt a B-25 pull off the line, and was surprised how much grunt it has, to say the least. Of course, this was with no top turret mechanism or armor plate installed.

What it DID do was make me anxious to ride in an A-26 Invader sometime.

I remember as a kid attending the "500" Fesatival Parade and asking who Jimmy Dolittle is - that was a time after having heard the teacher read the Dr. Dolittle books in school. Disappointed they were not related - Now proud they wern't.

Oakland A's pitcher Sean Doolittle is a cousin of Jimmy Doolittle. Sean plays his home games a few miles from Alameda, where Jimmy Doolittle shipped out on the USS Hornet, and where the Hornet is still docked today. Sean received the Dave Stewart Community Award in 2013, in recognition of his extensive support of military service members and veterans.
