Obviously the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee has more pull than the National Congress of American Indians.

          Actually,

          1. Whoever thought this was a good nickname to begin with?
          2. Think someone would have thought about changing it on 9/12/01
          3. It is insulting. To every man and woman who has fought the war on terrorism.

Read the article. The name was coined in the 1920's. No one cared much about political correctness then. Why should it have been changed after 9/11? That would seem to be a knee jerk reaction. Did all things Arab suddenly become offensive after that date? Why is it insulting to those fighting the war on terrorism? The mascot is a caricature that had no political implications before 9/11 and should have none afterwards.

The school superintendent finds himself in the same situation Washington Redskins supporters occupy:

"Being an African-American from the Deep South, I'm sensitive to stereotyping," Adams told the newspaper. "But in this context, when this was created it was not meant in that way. It was totally an admiration of the connection with the Middle East."
He doesn't think it's offensive. He sees it as a positive portrayal of Middle Eastern culture. But it's obviously a problem for some, especially those of Arabic descent. It's rather amusing a black person recognizes the mascot as "admiration" for the culture, much as Redskin supporters see that name as an acknowledgement of American Indian warrior culture and honoring the Indian's heritage.

But some people just see crude, insensitive, and ignorant racist white football fans. Is someone going to call out Adams for being racist? He's an African American. Will this confuse the political correct factions?

Wonder when they will go after Rockford (Ill.) East High School? They are the E-Rabs. Or Sheldon (Iowa) High School. They are the Orabs.

They are both acronyms to a degree. Rockford East's colors are red and black--hence E-Rabs (East, Red And Black). Ditto Sheldon, only their colors are Orange and Black. ORA for orange, B for black. Orabs. But these idiots would probably say it's too close to Arabs.

Of course not. Where were these people when the Compton Tarbabes took to the field?

I understand...but that won't stop the PC police. Remember the DC Mayor's aide that got fired (then offered his job back) for using the word niggardly? Had NOTHING to do with the n-word, it means "stingy"...it's an old word not used too often these days, but it sounds close, so the PC folks have a big problem with it. He wasn't the only one....

                              http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Controv...22niggardly%22

School admins are so afraid of anything controversial these days, I wouldn't be shocked if some "offended" parent started a movement to get "Arabians" replaced....and the idiot masses would jump in line.
