  • Hundreds of never-sold vintage Chevies to be auctioned

About 500 classic cars from the Lambrecht Chevrolet Dealership in Pierce, Nebraska will be sold at auction this weekend. When Ray Lambrecht, who ran the dealership with his wife Mildred for 50 years, would get in a new model  car he would put any unsold cars from the previous year into storage along with any trade-ins that remained at the dealership for too long. Many were stored outdoors on the farm. These leftover cars along with dealership memorabilia will all be offered to the highest bidders. Many of the cars have never been titled and have less than 20 miles on them. An estimated 10 to 12 thousand car enthusiasts from around the world are expected in Pierce, a town with a population of 1,700, for the event. Bidders from about a dozen countries have already started the bidding at Proxibid.com.

Looks like most of them are not high-dollar classics or anything-pretty much base models-but I imagine this is a treasure trove of parts cars.

There's a '78 Indy 500 Pace Car replica in there.

    It's a Hoosier thing, you wouldn't understand...

The pictures show mostly cars that were stored outside. But, many brand new cars were in the garage.

Sounds like it was just as much of a spectator event as it was an auction. If I was within decent driving distance I probably would've attended.

Somebody must've been making some pretty hefty profits to be able to take unsold stock like that and just shelve it on a farm.

            Amazing.

                That truck:

a sky-blue, 1958 Chevy Cameo pickup driven 1.3 miles — secured the largest bid at $140,000.

I wonder what the production numbers were for '58? The back end of that thing doesn't really register in my memory.

A search sez 1,405 were built in '58. They were produced from '55 to '58.

This was on the History channel sat night. They had a Corvette pedal car that GM gave to well performing dealers. A very rare item. If I remember it went for 16K, BTW the Cameo was a fiberglass fendered(rear) truck.
