  • It's Curtains for ya, Boy. Curtains!

After too many months of living in our remodeled abode with these lovely disposable shades on the windows it was time to add some tasteful window coverings. So after shopping, negotiating, shopping, maybe compromising, and shopping we came home with the goods.

I am not an interior decorator so the web gave me guidance, but I knew I need the input of Mrs. Numb. The subject was length. We have these 5" baseboard moldings so my idea was to hang the suckers about 2" above the floor. We could see the bottom of the moldings but also we would not need to worry about the sucker box eating the ends of the drapes. I explained the plan to Mrs. Numb and she nodded and uh-huhed her assent.

Mrs. Numb went off to church I commenced to measuring and drilling and hanging. The job was done before she returned.

"Oh, darling. They are just beautiful," was her response. "Only they are too short. They should touch the floor."

In short, your wife... is a woman.

Is there a point to this?

I suppose you have options. Others on this forum could probably tell you about them.

Obviously, your floor is too low.

Personal preference but I don't care for drapes, they make the room look smaller and are hard to operate. I have electric blinds in the living room/TV area, regular blinds in the other rooms.

They aren't cheap....had to replace one in my breakfast nook and it was about $1,200.

The OP has one option and it now involves spackle and touch up paint since he will be lowering. I hope he saved some paint. because color matching can be tough. One option, if the paint color doesn't match, he gets to paint the whole wall. And if that doesn't match, then it's repaint the whole room, and another trip to the paint store, because the quart was barely enough to roll the one wall, so if he's off to fetch the gallon, she will want a color change which means you need 2 gallons because color takes 2 coats.

Welcome to my world. Jack the floor up 4 and 3/4 inches and call it done.
