As far as blacksmithing, what were you planning to make?
You could visit Conner Prairie. They have a blacksmith that makes nails, hammers, axes, etc. Of course, they're made the 1836 way.

Does every "farrier",,, qualify ? I would guess there
are more "farrier's" today then at any other time in
history... Every branding iron made, is made by a
"Blackie"... To make an excellent "iron",,, that's an
art... To build one with just the "right" amount of
heat retention, yet not be so hot,,, that it
"fires da hide"...
We were at Spring State Park in Mitchel, Indiana this past Saturday. They have a blacksmith.
