I took this from my balcony. Took me a while to learn how to use Final Cut, but I did it (sort of).

Here's the same video set to Pink Floyd's "Great Gig in the Sky"

Ah, there's nothing more exciting than science. You get all the fun of sitting still, being quiet, writing down numbers, paying attention... Science has it all.

When you have the youtube video up go to the web address and copy everything right of the "=" sign. Open your TrackForum comment box, hit "Go Advanced", then click on the YouTube button. Right click, hit "paste" and you're in bid'ness.

My Iron-working 'brothers' hard at it, or 'Iron-heads' as we Carpenters call them. There's a 'friendly' rivalry between them and us as they sometimes like to think we steal some of their work, and we the same about them! :hammer:

I'd pack-up and move to NYC in a New York minute just to be able to work on that job. Thanks for making & sharing the video.

For sure...and even in both trades!

No denying that both trades are extremely hazardous on a daily basis and I have tremendous respect for the 'iron-heads' and what they do. However I like to think we Carpenters are just a tad smarter in electing to do our trade instead of theirs!

I read somewhere--and I'm going from memory, so forgive me if I mangle this--that there is so much steel reinforcement going into this building that a plane hitting it would practically bounce off instead of going right through it; which is why it's taking so long to build it. True?

The steel structure surrounds a concrete core made from a compressed type of concrete normally used in dams, reinforced with 2" rebar. Lots of 2" rebar. It's pretty much a homage to the idea that "if it's worth building, it's worth overbuilding". I'm not sure what would happen if a plane hit it and I hope I never find out, but anybody who got into the core structure before it hit would probably be safe from the crash. The fire is another story.
