  • potential major winter storm impacting Indy on Tuesday and something else

This will be a touchy subject but I think it needs to be addressed. With a possible major winter storm impacting the Indianapolis area on Tuesday, is the memorial service for a fallen police officer going to have a major impact on public safety response? They say they are going to have officers from the State Police, and other locations patrolling Indy, which I am sure works out fine under most circumstances. BUT, when major weather events happen, don't police kind of adopt an "all hands on deck" approach? No matter how much help is given to Indy on Tuesday from other agencies, it will be far from "all hands on deck." What about the other agencies, there extra hands will be working Indianapolis. Seems things will be stretched thin at a bad time.

I know this is a tough time for IMPD, and deaths in the line of duty are horrible things, but is this the most prudent thing to do?

Hopefully the weather won't get too bad until at least later in the day on Tuesday. I'd imagine that the Indiana State Police would have their hands pretty full on a "normal" day out on the interstates and highways when conditions are bad, so having a bunch of troopers in the city covering for IMPD would spread them pretty thin.

May not matter if nobody is able to travel.

They moved it up an hour. Not sure how one hour is going to make a difference.
No weather forecasts are ever guaranteed, even if confidence level is high. Even a 99% probability will miss 1% of the time. That's the best anybody can do when predicting highly complex events.

It looks like lots of people will be staying home tomorrow. It's a shame this service is going to be impacted by a horrible storm, but you can't control the weather.

Looks like they canceled the processional altogether...probably a good idea, although terrible timing for loved ones and those who wanted to pay their respects.

Local TV did a fine job covering the funeral!
              Have a very blessed day!
