We did some ice fishing there one winter but went back the following summer and couldn't find our fishing shack anywhere.

Have fun... my Dad and I use to head up there for a week every summer back in the 70s with a bunch of guys from Church. We were always up `round the border of Canada and would cross back and forth as we would forage to the next lake and back again.

That is the Chippewa National Forest area. Minnesota's largest Red Pine is nearby since the previous largest in Itasca State Park got topped a few years ago. It's a nice area.

The wife and I are getting a shack, auger, and related items for ourselves as a Christmas gift. We just have not pulled the trigger yet.

Mopar Rules isn't a masochist... he's going in mid-July. Not the kind of fishing that you and Mrs. Cheeseczar are trying to get motivated for.

Thanks I was wanting to put that reference into my post but couldn't figure out how to do it seamlessly.

Ah, you didn't go far enough north. I went up to Grand Marais, MN last week 40 miles from Canada to beat the heat. Up there it was sweatshirt weather in the evening. That is just a sliver of area on the Lake Superior North Shore Arrowhead region that beat the heat all week. In two weeks we are going up to a private lake in the Brainerd lakes area. Hopefully it will be cooler then.

Grand Marais. I stopped there overnight on my way to joining my father and brothers fishing in Canada one year. Have always wanted to go back. Fantastic place.

I go up to Grand Marais and/or the Gunflint Trail several times every year during all seasons. Here is my little slide show from the past few years of the North Shore.

I'll soon be adding some more photos from my trip last week.
