  • Perfect North Ski Area

Taking the kids (8 and 10) to Perfect North tomorrow (outside Cincy). They're first timers - any advise? The advertise free lessons on the hour in a dedicated area - we plan on starting there. The wife and I have been out West many times before the kids, so this should be a fun little tune up for us too.

    Any other thoughts?

Haven't been to PNS in a LONG time so I don't have any late breaking info on the place... but, their website has some good tips for you:

I'd say bunny hill... but are their any other kind outside of Cincy??

On advise... Go with orthopedic pins instead of casts if given the option.

Kids pick up skiing quickly! I had my son skiing with me on intermediates after a 1/2 day lesson when he was 6. Hardest part is learning how to get off the lifts. Hope you guys have a blast!

Hey... how was I suppose to know that tips had to be up the first time I got off a lift? Talk about embarrassing.

Fired the family up at 6:30, were out the door by 7:00 and in line to get tickets around 9:00. After getting rentals and our crap together, the kids were in the instruction line at 10:00. They did about an hour while the wife and I hit some blues. Once they were done, we kept them in the beginner area for another hour or so. Too flat to really learn how to turn and such. So, we took them up the lifts to some easy blues. After about three runs with my helping, guiding, and holding on to my poles - they were off. Not great, but they were skiing. Lots of falls and lots of good moments too.

Nice place and I'd certainly go again (for Indiana skiing). Was VERY crowded though with holiday break and thundershowers in the forecast for the next few days.

                Thanks for the update!

Due to your thread I scheduled a day down there for us next weekend... then it hit 60d & melted all the snow.

I'm checking the snow reports to see if we go or not.

Looks like all the runs and lifts are open - the snow cams look good too.

                    Thanks!

And looks as if the weather will be good for more snow making as required.

Not to be too much of a ski snob, but a "Double Black Diamond" run on that hill??? I can't even find the vertical relief on the website.

Oh well, it is in driving distance for the Indy crowd and gets the kids outside and off the darn game consoles for a while. Enjoy!

Vertical drop of PNS is 400'.

And it's less than 90 minutes from my home.

As a long time resident of Colorado who learned to ski in the Rocky Mountains, I will resist the temptation to make a condescending comment.
All rides are bought. But occasionally the currency is talent.

I miss not being able to go to either Colorado, or at least Michigan to get my skiing jones taken care of like I did in high school & college, but having a family tends to put a halt to most of that kind of stuff that I used to do.

                            So hey, condescend away...

I hate skiing here. My sister has a place in Park City so I've skied there many times. It doesn't cost any more to ski at The Canyons than it does to ski at Perfect North...
