I liked both very much but have to with Patton, even though it's dated as far as film standards today.

The PJs had an episode where they were showing Shaving Private Ryan.

We're talking about war movies here. Saving Private Ryan is about war; Patton is about a man who, for better or worse, loves it.

                Meh...

I liked Glory better than either of these two.

Private Ryan was not a man?

                    For me:

                    1. Saving Private Ryan
                    2. Glory

I'm watching 'They Were Expendable' right now, probably better than either of these two.

Yeah but the movie wasn't about him... it was about the War others had to wade through to find him so they could save him.

Too bad this was restricted to just movies and didn't include Band of Brothers.

Wow, that's a tough choice. The first act of "Saving Private Ryan" was just staggering, and the film explores many facets of war, good and bad.

On the flip side, the opening monlogue in "Patton" is a great scene, and it has always been among my favorites.

In the end, I'm going to go with "Patton" for it's oblique relationship to Indy car racing. The soldier slapped by General Patton was played by actor Tim Considine, who I had the pleasure to get to know when i was working in the IMS press room back in the Compuserve/RIS days. Tim is a real renaissance man, and among his interest is auto racing. He wrote a book about all of the Americans who ever raced in F1. That tips the scales for me.
I ain't quiet, everybody else is too loud.

I voted for Patton because I think explored all aspects of war and by virtue of George C. Scott's performance.
