  • Attention, Rolling Stones fans

Thursday the 25th @ 9:00 PM, VH1C will premiere "Ladies and Gentlemen, the Rolling Stones".
Clips from this have been on the 'tube for years, but unless you were fortunate enough to have seen it at one of it's rare screenings since it was released in '74, or purchased the DVD (never released on VHS) which only became available last month this will probably be your first chance to see it.

It's a "complete" concert filmed at 4 Texas shows from the '72 tour (set list is the same as when I saw them in Norfolk, Va.in '72, "Rocks Off" replaced "Sweet Virginia" at most shows).

This is the band at it's peak. "Exile" was the "new" album, the last in the "Beggar's Banquet"- "Let It Bleed"- "Sticky Fingers"-"Exile On Main Street" run of great albums.

Mick Taylor is still on guitar, horns from Bobby Keys and Jim Price, Nicky Hopkins and Ian Stewart on keyboards.

Don't miss it (and your chance to show your kids what rock & roll sounds like when it's done correctly)....and TURN IT UP!

I'm glad you posted this, my younger brother is a professional musician and a huge Stones fan. I'm going to find the DVD and give it to him for Christmas.

The Mick Taylor era of the Stones was by far the best IMHO. Brian Jones added some funky textures to their early sounds but wasn't a very good live musician. Ron Wood sounds too much like Keef.

The main reason the film had a very limited theater run was because a bigass hi-tech (for the day) sound system requiring a bigass truck to haul it accompanied the film, it played @ 100 db. and a sound engineer came along with the system, he mixed every showing to match the building's acoustic and audience size.

Very cool, thanks. I attended one of their shows at The International Amphitheatre during the 72 tour.
A book fell on my head, and I only have my shelf to blame.

Thanks for the heads-up J. Saw them in concert but not in '72 which was unquestionably the period when they were the greatest. I'm still a big Stones fan so this is very cool!

If you liked what you saw and heard, go buy the DVD.
Not surprisingly, VH1C butchered the film.
What was shown was great, but being chopped up for commercials really ruined any sense of the flow of the show and several songs were eliminated completely..

Here's the set list as contained in the DVD:
                    "Brown Sugar"
"B!tch" (TF naughty language monitor won't let the song title be shown "as is")
                    "Gimme Shelter"
                    "Dead Flowers"
                    "Happy"
                    "Tumbling Dice"
                    "Love in Vain"
                    "Sweet Virginia"
"You Can't Always Get What You Want"
                    "All Down the Line"
                    "Midnight Rambler"
                    "Bye Bye Johnny"
                    "Rip This Joint"
                    "Jumping Jack Flash"
                    "Street Fighting Man'

"Dead Flowers" (both the song and the TF member ) are bonuses, it was only played at one of the 4 Texas shows that comprise the movie and rarely on the rest of the tour and "Rocks Off" replaced "Sweet Virginia" at most shows.
The DVD also has footage of the band rehearsing for the tour in Montreux, some of which VH1C showed following the movie.

If you missed the broadcast, VH1C is showing it several time in the next week, check your lisitings.

Watched it and agree with the butchering job! Great music, they were definitely on top of their game at that point, and young!!

Went to Fry's on Wednesday...they had one copy left on the shelves so I nabbed it. Brother Rick is gonna be surprised and pleased. I know he hasn't purchased it himself because after all, he's a professional musician.

What do you call a bass player without a girlfriend?

                            Homeless.

What's the difference between a pepperoni pizza and a musician?

The pizza can feed a family of four.
