Just an extension of too much of the touchy/feely crap that came out of the '70s and '80s.
Reminds me of Werner Erhard, est pooh-bah, and ersatz Super Vee driver. He was reported to have said on more than one occasion, "I accept full responsibility, " and then walk away after being confronted by someone he had run off the track.
