I haven't had a cigarette for over 6 weeks now. I used and still am using the Patch, but I really don't need those, they're just a precaution. However, having the Doctor thinking you have Cancer and Operates on your LUNG THREE times, with tubes coming out of my Throat, as well as my Chest, inside CVICU for 4 days might have had something to do with helping me quit!!! I don't recommend that method, but if it works for you..... go for it! As far as the "E-cigarette" goes, I've heard some good things about it, but to me, you're STILL NOT breaking the habit of having something between your fingers during a CRAVING! I think THAT'S one of the biggest things to quitting, is changing your actions, during a craving. To ME, the e-cigarette doesn't do that. But that's just MY opinion!
I quit for about 8 weeks last year, and I was taking Chantix... THAT if you don't have any side effects from them work better than ANYTHING. I didn't even have a CRAVING. Not ONE!!! The reason I started back smoking again was that my Wife didn't quit TOTALLY and having them IN the house is SO tempting and before long, you're smoking again!!!!!But that's just my opinion!

After coughing up a couple of mouthfuls of blood I put 'em away June 1.
If you have to do the e thing, you are not ready. When YOU are ready, you'll know. And you will put them away. If you are stopping because everybody is telling you to, it's not time. I still fight the urge once in a while but for the most part I don't even think about those things anymore. 40 years was enough I figure. Scared the crap out of me and ruined my first Indy 500 since 2000.
Patch it, pill it, whatever it takes...and good luck! Post here or PM me and I'll try to help. Just put 'em away.
On edit, do the math: $7.50/pack X 1.5 packs a day not spent since 6/1. The hell with the lungs...look at the dough!Last edited by cheeseczar; 10-23-2010, 08:33 PM....---...

Three quarters of a year for me. Fell off the smoking wagon a few times last year after a month or two without each time, "trying" to quit, until around the first week of last January. Not sure the exact day but I just didn't smoke any for a few days shortly after the new year, because I was briefly sick with a flu and then didn't have any handy. So when I realized it had been three days I kept going. Expecting a weakening resolve in a few weeks like before, but I didn't miss them that time for very long. I guess I had just had enough and wanted better things to do. The last time smelling one gave me any craving at all was a few months back (and very mild), but mostly they smell bad now, and I wonder why I started on the stupid things.
I don't know about the E-cigs or the patch. I tried the patch once but my mind would tell me 'once you've got the nicotine may as well have the cigarette'. For me quitting just finally stuck on about the fifth half-decent try. Maybe it helped being sick because since I felt lousy anyway I never noticed the usual first few days of withdrawal.Got to watch out for those Libertarians - they want to take over the government and leave everyone alone!

Was wondering. I used to buy cigarettes online. Far cheaper. But, once I got a bill from Illinois for unpaid taxes, so I quit buing online. My in-law smokes. She was getting cigarettes from an Indian cigatette sales company. Suddenly, they quit sending her letters. Then checked my old site, all they sell now are cigars. Checked other sites, all were operating out of Europe. Was there some sort of crack down?

Been 7 years here, and I was up to 2 packs of Winstons a day. For me it was a 2 step process.
Step #1. STOP buying them!.....You can't smoke what you don't have, and get rid of every ash tray, lighter and book of matches you have in the house.
Step #2. Buy something you absolutely hate (for me it was celery....despise the stuff) and every time you get the urge, eat a mouthful of whatever it is you've chosen. It sounds really simplistic I know, but like I said, it's been 7 years and every time I even get the slightest urge to light up all I can think of is a mouthful of celery. The crap you inhale with everyone of those nails you smoke has tricked your brain into thinking you NEED them, the key is telling it that you don't.
Good Luck, it's not easy, but whatever method you choose, trust me, you'll sit back and wonder what you ever lit the first one up for.Whoever said nothing was impossible obviously never tried slamming a revolving door.
