  • Craftsman Leaf Blower Help Needed

My Dad gave me his old leaf blower telling me, "If you can make it run, it's yours." So the other day I started tinkering. I filled it with gas/oil tried to start it - nothing. I changed the plug - nothing. Pulled the plug again and it was dry telling me it's not getting fuel. So hoping it was something I could solve easily, I shot some starter fluid into it and it fired up...until the vapor from the starter fluid was burned then it died.

So, I know its a problem of not getting any fuel either due to fouled fuel lines or a bad pumper diaphram in the carb. My problem is I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get at the carb. This model has the plastic cover surrounding the engine and I took every screw I could find out and there is something in the handle area that is holding it all together.

Does anyone have any advice for me?

I know I should put the thing in the garbage and head out and buy a new one but that isn't in the budget so I either fix this or get out the broom. Plus at this point, it's personal. I'm not goiing to get beaten by this thing.

    Thanks.

    ahh to be young again..........

first, go open-up a cold beer. then look over the entire housing.
secondly, go open-up a cold beer. then find some kind of prying tool.
third, go open-up a cold beer. then place the blower in a vice like holding
    implement.
fourth, go open-up a cold beer. then take prying tool and a hammer, find crease in housing and begin examining crease with prying tool and hammer.
fifth, go open-up a cold beer. spray carb/brake cleaner over housing and light with torch to loosing pressed on fitting.
finally, go open-up a cold beer. remove cell phone from holster and call 911....your shop is on fire and the sob still won't start!!!

I think I had the same model. Took it apart like you did, got pizzed and threw it in the grabage and bought an electric one. Still use it. A Ryobi, that is instantly reversable from blower to vacuum. I recommend it.
A book fell on my head, and I only have my shelf to blame.

Thumbs up on the vacuum! I am a non violent person normally. However, every time someone blows their garbage on my freshly washed car, I get the urge to run over them!

I never understood the lawn blower... what good is it to move your mess around??

I think it was created for lawn services, that way they can move in mow and then blow your troubles into the street or into your neighbors yard and then they load up and leave you to deal with your neighbors.

trade it in on a good shop vac.

I've got a Rigid shop vac which you can take the top off of and use as a blower. I have no use for a blower except to get the cat off the dining room table, but it's nice to have one anyway.
