  • DISH Network Tricks

I'm looking for a little help.

I have DISH Network, and I would like to get Indianpolis local channels even though I live in Chicago.

So far it looks like my best bet is to fake a move to Indy.

Anybody have any luck trying something similar?

Also, I'm not worried in the least about losing my Chicago locals as I can pull them in with an over-the-air antenna.

    Any tips?

Wouldn't there be some kind of crime associated with pulling something like that?

        I don't think it's criminal, but it's certainly unethical.

Better yet, you could record all the local channels and drive the tapes to him every six hours...

All locals except New York and LA are spot-beamed to their respective areas and are basically impossible to pick up outside of them.

The spot beam allows them to make better use of bandwidth, as each local area uses the same frequencies so they can re-use the piece of the band rather than needing to put ever increasing amounts of satellites in the sky.

The spot beams broadcasts for Indy should be able to be picked up in Chicago.

There are 6 spot beam transponders, and depending on where you are in the country you will be unable to pick up some of them (how many will vary).

It's not market by market, it's more like a chunk of the country on each one. Being in the midwest I'd imagine your chances of picking up 3 or 4 of the transponders are good (they overlap quite a bit).

You'll need the newest dish as well, with B Band convertor(s).

As an example, the Miami market and Tampa market are easily picked up with the same dish all over the state of Florida.

Question: Are there chunks of Illinois and Indiana that can receive both markets normal TV broadcasrs with a large antenna? Small antenna?

                          Why the high horse guys?

Are the DISH spybots scanning trackforum?

I PAY to receive my local channels in Chicago via satellite. I just thought maybe there is some kind of workaround that would let me PAY to get the locals from Indy instead.

The legal issue revolves around the fact that the local station's advertisers (who pay for the programming in larger increments than we, the viewer, do) are often falling on deaf ears (and eyes) when in another city.

Find somebody in Indy who wants Chicago locals and trade access cards with them? Dish receiver still use access/smart cards right? Would only work if you're on the same package and don't use any pay per view.
