  • IUPUI Basketball Teams

Well our women's team just did something for the first time in school history. They are going into the conference championships! Yep I'm excited. I've watch both teams play a lot this season as being one of the few sports writers for our campus paper and its been lots of fun so I'm happy & excited for them. Next up is our men's team taking on Oakland in semi's tonight. Its on Fox Sports Indiana if you need anything to do tonight (if your in Indiana). Its 9:30 Indy time. You can listen on the radio on Freedom 95.9 if your out and about.

Go Jags. Very cool, I finished up my degree at IUPUI, when my wife had to come up to Indy to finish her nursing degree.

I saw John Ashworth at a HS sectional game a few days back. I told him they were making us old IUPUI grads proud. Go Jags!

I'm so excited. As soon as we won, I got on my boys facebook's and wish them luck. Our women's team plays at 3:00pm on ESPNU. I don't have it but does anyone know if DirectTV does? We have that on campus at my work (i'm off most of this week bc of spring break) so I can maybe watch it there in our new tv lounge.

Awesome! John is a great player and he did great tonight! I talked to him just the other day on campus wishing him luck since I didn't get to go (they sent my editor). I got to interview him on media day when I was editor.

btw, I was there at the greatest moment for IUPUI women's basketball
1991 NAIA National Tournament - in those days the NAIA national tournament was a week long event where 32 teams come it. IUPUI was a low seed, pulling off 3 upsets. In the quarterfinal game, Muffy Murphy is basically knocked out early in the game by a flailing elbow. She comes back into the game and hits 10 of 13 3 point shots and scores 40 points to lead IUPUI to another upset.

For men's basketball I was there in 1985 for NAIA national tourney in Kansas City, the first time the men's team advanced to national tourney and got paired with Wisconsin-Stevens Point in the first round. Stevens Point was led by Terry Porter, last player cut from the 1984 US Olympic team who would go on to be an NBA All Star. They were coached by Dick Bennett, who would go on to coach at Wisconsin. IUPUI kept the game close but Porter was a man against boys. Whenever they needed a basket he seemed to come up with the ball and the basket.

Good night of basketball on ESPN tonight (3/11):

7 p.m. IUPUI vs. Oral Roberts for the Summit Championship

9 p.m. Butler vs. Cleveland State for the Horizon Championship

No weather forecasts are ever guaranteed, even if confidence level is high. Even a 99% probability will miss 1% of the time. That's the best anybody can do when predicting highly complex events.

I was just a kid back then but I been slowing reading up on IUPUI sports when I was sports editor last semester. I hope we can win both tonight and have a party. I was talking to one of the girls and she said they're having a party or whatever if they do win when they get back to Indy and invited me since I been a big supporter of theirs all season as a impartial media member. Cann's mom loved it when I was cheer softly in the media section. My toughest game was ORU when we won as I was photographer. Luckily we had two of us there that night.

Doesn't seem right that they could have 26 wins and not be in the Big Dance. Heck, would they even be called for the NIT?

The more Indiana teams in the Tourney, the better.

Oral Roberts is tough though. They took Texas deep back in Nov or Dec. Beware.
