  • Unlikable?

I tried to “like” a post by a person on one of the forums. I got a message saying I cannot “give reputation to this user.” ???

Does that mean he has blocked me?

Seems odd to be prevented from liking a post.

It means they are serving a temporary probation "vacation" because they have exceeded the allowable number of infraction points for political posts, insults, trolling, etc.

Ironically happening to one of the more likeable people on this board right now

What was the thinking behind the transition from “On Vacation” meaning a temporary suspension of posting privileges vs the current temporary probation? And other than being unlikable, what are the consequences of being on probation?

Or is this just another conversion glitch like the ignore function?

It's not a glitch, really, it's just that it takes an extra step to login and uncheck the box that allows access to the CE forum before the permissions are removed, once a member accumulates enough points to be temporarily banned.

In the case of these two members, there is an ongoing debate about fairness of the infractions charged based on political afiliation. So for the time being, we decided to continue to record the points as we see them, without incurring the ban.

Both members have otherwise a long history of positive contributions and community participation (not monetary, btw, if that thought occurs) and fairly high reputation scores. So I wouldn't advise it as a strategy for anyone else

We can record the concerns, and they can still participate (but see how the points accumulate and what the impact would be if not for the probation).

Hopefully we will come to a mutual understanding at some point of the judgment calls, and life will improve.

          Hope this helps.

Could someone “like” posts thus improving someone’s reputation score? If certain posters had “fan boys” punching the like button could their scores be influenced negating infraction points? Not that that would slip by unnoticed.
I do use the button, for good info, originality, humor, agreement and thoughtful posts.

Yes, likes help reputation, and yes, the algorithm checks for fanboys and duplicate IPs. The value of your likes varies with your rep as well, and how lavishly you apply it.
