  • Question about TF posting regs.

What are the rules for posting such that your post doesnt get rolled into a working thread thats already 14 pages long? Especially if its new or relevant info? Has there been a mgmt directive change?????

When my mother in law comes to visit she always incorporates all the opened bags of chips into a single bag. Same with cereal. Maybe it saves space but I don't like my Peanut Butter Crunch mixed with her high fiber Meuslix, or my Doritoes and her flax seed tortillas. I still eat them, but I dont like it.

It depends on the mood. Sometimes you can start a new thread on stuff without getting jumped.....but if the information isn't relevant enough at the time, it turns into a slaughter....

The mods make those adjustments based on what, in their experience, will give the most members the best experience, as well as feedback from the membership.

          We consider:
          • the likelihood of confusion with the original thread
          • the propensity for repeat posts and re-hashing information or arguments,
          • and ease of searches (including future searches).

We also have options regarding re-directs, if any, and how long they last.

Obviously, you are referring to this post, which you started as a new thread: http://www.trackforum.com/forums/sho...=1#post3414439

If it had been an actual announcement, it may have merited its own thread. As it was, the preceding posts were still relevant, and we didn't feel it was time to close it in favor of the new thread. We also prefer not to have two threads on what are very similar topics, as some people will get confused, some people will make the same post multiple times, and some people will question why there are multiple threads being allowed.

In a case like this, if the two threads are going to be merged, I'd like to see some sort of merging of the thread titles, as well. I would not open a thread titled 'Montoya doesn't rule out IndyCar', because it's too vague and speculative to get my interest. I would definitely open a thread that indicated there was a specific team seeking funding to bring him here, though. If it's that far in the process it might actually have a chance to happen, and thus has much more appeal to me to read.

I opened the thread with that title because that's what was going on at the time.

Montoya was discussing his future possibilities on Friday and didn't rule out a return to IndyCar.

Sorry, I'll go back to not starting threads.

We're updating the thread title as the situation evolves.

                    We usually do.

Sometimes we have to be told, though

I'm telling ya, the day they started giving out gold stars to kids I think people still pine for them in thinking starting threads will earn them gold stars.

No, you misunderstand. I'm not saying it wasn't an interesting topic worthy of discussion. I'm just saying that at this point my time is pretty limited and I'm only going to take the time to read up on any possible driver addition to IndyCar if it is already to the point of serious discussion. I actually very much appreciate that your title alerted me to the fact that Montoya wasn't ruling it out, but for me, knowing that is good enough until it develops into something more serious. If my life weren't crazy busy right now I'd be reading up on every thread on the IndyCar board, but as it stands, I read very few, unfortunately.

Oh, and before anybody correctly points out that I do still post a fair amount on the OT board, that is (because of the nature of that board) because that I am far less likely to get caught up in a time consuming, impassioned debate there than I am on the IC board. It's also where I get my non-political news, as I am avoiding political news like the plague, which requires that I do not watch or read any real news publications or outlets.

To kind of come back around to the point that I was trying to make and what would be most beneficial to me...

The original thread title was completely accurate and what it should have been, at that time. When the second thread was started, if they were to be merged, it would help me for the original title to be updated to something along the lines of, 'Montoya not ruling out IndyCar - Andretti seeking sponsorship'. That keeps the intent of both titles, and keeps me informed of the progress of the discussions if I don't have time to read through dozens of posts.

It just seemed like my last few posts having to do with Indycar either got rolled to another forum or bounced into an existing thread. I actually scan the board before I post, and no one had put up anything about Andretti shopping for JPM. I understand there can't be multiple threads on the same topic, I'm not looking for any gold stars, and if some posters get preferential treatment on breaking news fist, then so be it. I'm not looking to step on toes. But if this is an open forum, then it's an open forum and everyone should get a chance to speak. To Gomer's point I also don't have time to read through every page on every thread...And c'mon, there are threads out there about Indycar Credit Cards, Would you welcome Daffy Duck?, and Why don't we race at XYZ Speedway...so if I put up something that is actual relevant news about the ICS, I'd like for it to stay up there.

I don't mean any disrespect to anyone and I appreciate the mods job. I enjoy TF and want to continue enjoying it.
