Thought I'd share some unfiltered feedback direct from members older and newer. I believe I have sanitized these to preserve anonymity - if anyone is concerned, let me know and I'll remove anything posted here.
I think I can trust most of these folks to tell me to go pound sand when they feel like it
Feel free to post your own feedback here as well
I hope this helps everyone. Maybe you see something here you agree with, maybe not. Now you'll know more about what others are saying. Please feel free to share amongst yourselves, as well. Obviously, we can't please everyone all the time.
It has occurred to me, of course, that some people would be reluctant to be perfectly frank if I know who they are
Those who know me well enough (I hope) would attest that I really don't care, but if anyone would like to pass on anonymous comments on behalf of anyone else, I promise no questions, no recriminations. I'm more interested in the truth than anything else. Thanks
I think Track Forum is fine. We just need race cars with open wheels racin' so that we have something to talk about that has some substance.
I think I can trust most of these folks to tell me to go pound sand when they feel like it

I LOVE TF!!! I don't post as much these days because my life has gotten so much busier, but I think it's the best forum that I've ever been associated with. The mods do an incredible job of policing the boards to keep it clean and fair.
There are a few things I'd like to see done...
1. Greatly expand "The Media Boy Forum, hosted by Ren Butler & skypigeon." This should be the most important destination on the forum (perhaps on the planet!).
2. Incorporate software or tools so that we can easily post from our mobile devices. I think I'd post more often these days if I could do that.
3. Two words, "Elvis Impersonator."
4. Remove the Current Events forum. I've yet to see people play fair when it comes to debating things like politics on the internet. Unfortunately, people seem to have no issues with personally attacking anyone that has different beliefs. It's no sweat off my back. I just ignore the forum. However, I know several others who have been very frustrated because of it.
I don't want to see forums die in the popularity of Facebook and Twitter. They still server a very valuable service and TF does an incredible job.
Thanks for asking.
How are you feeling about TF?
Hey, I post on a fairly regular basis so that should tell you something.
What can we do better? What are we doing that we should stop doing ?
Not delete my posts, for starters. If you don't want the place to go to hell in a hand basket, you can stop allowing (some member) to post.
If TF is now the "Official Forum for Indycar", you may want to reconsider once again the CE forum. A possible insider who comes for the first time may not appreciate the wanton hatred for the POTUS that is expressed on a daily basis.
Other than that, you have done a fine job of building the best on line racing fan community on the Internet
Its a fun and informative site. I visit more than once every day and have learned alot about a sport which I thought I already knew alot about
Theres blow-hards and bomb throwers of course but others think Im the bomb throwing blow hard so it all evens out.
I do not know if it is possible to do, but it would be cool if a regular visitor was able to put the different forums in an order of their own choosing.
I know on my ... home page I have a dozen or so Favorite sites stored and they can be arranged so the sites I visit most often are at the top of my list.
Some Forums Im on every day like Nostalgia and IndyCar and Off Topic. Theres others like Racing sims and Moto GP which Im pretty sure Ive never taken a peek at. It would be a cool feature if those I never visit could be dropped to the bottom of my page since I never look at them
I dont know web design so I have no idea how complex that would be.
There aren't alot of racing fans in (my home state) compared to football/baseball/basketball/hockey fans. I was thrilled to find a place to have conversations about racing.
In regards to how TrackForum is doing I think its doing great, at first I really didn't like TrackForum when Indycar.com directed me over here because it looked to me as though everyone here was as bland and boring as watching grass grow, but then once they finally showed their personality I knew I had to join! Nothing more fun than discussing Indycar with other fans! Its a lot better than (some other forums). Things I like about it are that its moderated, has a lot more traffic, and a ton more "knowledgeable" people! I also like the fact that there is a wide variety of fans here: people from Canada, Japan, the United States, young fans and old, newcomers and oldschool fans, males and females, its really amazing how much "diversity" there is among fans! In my opinion I wouldn't change a thing!
Here's to a great 2011 IndyCar season and many more to follow!
I'm having no issues what-so-ever, either technically or socially. I like the new 'lay-out' with the forums being 'categorized'. I have totally enjoyed my return here to TF and am glad to be back.
The one thing that sticks out right now for me is this. I've noticed an influx of new members ... and a couple of them need to read & review the rules here and realize that this board is operated far differently and more professionally than (some other forums). Case-in-point, I noticed a thread/poll last night on the IndyCar board where one of the newbies asked whether a certain member of the other forum would show up here. I've also noticed a couple of others making similar comments in some of the threads. Perhaps a 'sticky' thread to inform the newbies how things work here or some sort of a PM to all new registered members to be sure to read the rules and abide by them. I don't care for the 'un-professional' attitude & posting a few have demonstrated.
Aside from that I believe that the moderation is being done top-notch by allowing both cheerleaders and the disgruntled to participate & state their opinions and debate one-another respectively. I also believe there's been some good 'lively' conversations by most during this off-season. Hard to believe we're only 39 days away from the season starting...seems we've kept busy this off-season, which is a good thing IMO.
Would it be possible to edit thread titles & posts to eliminate the words "Twitter" & "Facebook" due to the fact that many who post from work, libraries, etc, can't view the threads because those sites are blocked?
Maybe substitute "FB" for "Facebook" & "TW" for "Twitter"?
this forum is full of very knowledgeable people, but sometimes it has a very "elitist" vibe. As if you're not an insider or a 30+ year fan of the series, somehow that is not good enough. And, as pointed out by quite a few of us "other forum refugees", it seems like people tend to be very rude to "newbies", even though quite a few of us are just as knowledgeable/have been fans for just as long. I see that a lot of good-natured ribbing goes on here, and that's good, we had plenty of that there too. We just don't like that some people assume our opinions are less valid because of our length of time here.
Thanks for taking the time to ask - it does make a difference.
It is fine, i wish it was like it was back in the old days. It feel like a family back then.
You guys do a good job putting up with me and Dolan
As for a forum, there's been a few mentions over time of breaking off a separate forum from the Off Topic forum expressly for food talk. Recipes, favorite restaurants, etc. But I also don't know if that's logistically annoying. If so, then no worries. I'm happy to keeping my "(specialty food)" posts in the Off Topic forum. ;-)
Actually, fairly good at the moment. I will admit that I am a little apprehensive about to linkage with the IICS, but I'll reserve judgment. I can see pluses and minuses, so we'll see how it goes.
The question is usually put: Stop-Start-Continue. I would say Continue to be the former TrackForum as much as possible as I think that's what is important. That's the TrackForum that attracted folks to begin with.
Good Luck,
I just spent 30 minutes answering your request (nicely) to as to what my feelings are with TF only to find out that your mailbox is full and I wasted my time and effort. At this point, my feelings are frustrated, disappointed, unwanted, censored, and searching. Things I think will relay to the series at some point. If this isn’t an “IndyCar” forum then why are we here and why were we sent here?
Us refugees were sent to TF from DF. That was an IndyCar forum where we debated things we felt were to the benefit of the series and I think we had a lot of input in some of the positive changes that have occurred and healing some of the wounds of reunification. Were there some knuckleheads? Yes, but I could deal with that. I think the whole "rules" thing was mishandled and now see ... threads have been moved without any explanation. .... I still feel that (members are) being censored and that I will not put up with on any forum. If your forum is designed for discussion fine but, that is not where (other members) came from or want. They came from a very passionate position of improving the sport we so dearly love. If we were sent here to be muzzled well, that ain’t going to happen. We will find a site where our voices will be heard and I think it is time to check out ICG. RB has stated that he listens to fans. Well, that ain’t going to happen if we get censored over something, someone decides isn’t politically correct. We are looking for a forum of change or in the case of change a place to either approve or criticize that change without fear of censorship. This is nothing personal directed at you. You have been nothing but considerate and helpful but, you asked for my opinion AND I usually have one politically correct or not. Again, the questions that are important are is what is your forum for and if this is not an IndyCar forum then why were we sent here and why should we be here?
I feel very good about TF. Better all the time actually. It took me a long time to get used to the rather strict moderation but, over the past 12-18 months I've come to be more cognizant of what will and will not stand, and have more or less learned to act accordingly. Well, at least 99% of the time! It's good to see the recent influx of new members from the (other) forums. Keeping (everyone) on their toes will be a big challenge for you guys over the coming months, no doubt. I don't envy you the task. It's important to remember that, while we may all have widely varying opinions on any given topic, we are all die hard racing fans when all is said and done. This has helped me tremendously I believe. I hope this input is of some help...
Re: How are you feeling about TF?
the ******* population seems to be growing....rapidly
i hope my ignore button can keep up with it
Thank you for asking. As I don't have any connections with any team any more, I don't have much to say on the Indycar forum in the off season and find myself spending more time than I should on the off-topic and current events forums.
I am overall very pleased with TF. You and the other mods do a difficult job very well.
Just about my only frustration is thread hi-jacking, and I don't know if you can do much about that. It is ftrustrating to have a thread turn into yet another re-hash of topics which have been done to death in other threads.
My thanks for your good work.
TF is probably the healthiest drug I take! hahahaha...
Don't know that I dig the blood red background so much. Mostly just a personal preference thing there I suppose. Beyond that I like the site as a whole, considering I'm probably one of the most computer illiterate members here. I can type.....with two fingers.....and point, click and drag, click......and I can do pretty much all I need to do as far as posting. When I do find myself at a wall I can usually rely on the site itself to walk me through it. It's all right there if you take the time to look for it.
On a personal level, just find myself spending more and more time reading old threads and enjoying the "family" feel this place once had and browse through most of the current stuff, unless it's a topic I really have an interest in. Used to be I'd sit and read just about all the threads, even on topics I had no knowledge of or desire to know about, just because I got a kick out of some of the "back and forth" amongst folks I knew I could stand at a racetrack and laugh with. Place just seems more divided than ever and with the new influx of "friends", all my gut tells me is we are in for about 12 to 18 more months of the 'us VS. them' stuff that everyone here used to make fun of "crapwagon" for. I don't envy you guys at all, having to try and keep some form of rationality to all of it, and you have my word that I'll do my best to not become one of the problem children. The site itself, is fresh and you guys do a wonderful job of keeping it up to date with all the fancy stuff, the content however seems to have taken a 10 year step backwards. That, you cannot control, and for some of us, is just yet another bump in the road we must travel down pursuing our passion for this sport. 90% of the posters here, I feel have, or in some cases HAD that passion, the other 10% are here to argue, no matter the subject. Seems lately that agreeing, to a very small point, with Paff, has landed me on a bunch of ignore lists, or maybe I was before and just never noticed. I have several very dear and true friends here, some of whom I met solely because of Trackforum, Trevor and yourself included, and I am happy to interact with them and read up on the latest news and "whatnot". The shouting matches and appendage measuring contests with posters who were, in their own words "too young to have ever seen Mears drive in person" and whose only knowledge of this sport has come from racing forums is just not what I come here for.
"It is what It is", or so I have read here.......been a fan of "It" for far too long and have way too many hours and dollars invested in it to turn away now. I'll be here as long as there is a sport to root on, and will come of the porch to defend her when necessary, it's just that you might have to look a little harder to find me!
In all sincerity, keep up the fantastic and thankless job that you guys do to provide this place to all of us, warts and all. Just like that cousin that nobody wants to talk about, it is, in the end, "family".
There are a few things I'd like to see done...

First off, I don't visit every forum every day... But maybe after I retire...
TF is heavily moderated and that is most always a good deal. You guys are quick to respond when I have a question/problem. (another members') recent problem in logging on is a good example.
The political stuff is tilted toward the right, but what Indiana based forum isn't? I've read complaints about (some) handling of debates but pay it little mind. One picks one's battles. I don't participate because folks forget that their pontificating won't change my mind and I could care less about changing others' minds.
TF is probably the healthiest drug I take! hahahaha...
I enjoy Trackforum very much. It's a good community, and well moderated.
I do have one suggestion. I think it might put more work on the mods than is reasonable to ask, but since you're looking for ideas, here's a thought.
Create a separate forum for Indy Car news items, while directing discussion to a separate forum. I think it would be helpful to have a place to go where we can get a quick look at what is actually happening without wading through discussion threads.
Like I said, it would take some work for the mods to determine what threads get moved to the news section and for a free forum, that's asking a lot. I very much appreciate the effort that goes in to making this a pleasant place to participate.
TF is a great place, I don't know what you could do better or what you could stop. It's been a great forum for a long time and we've weathered a lot of storms. Granted I'm not in the short track camp, I don't understand the correlation between USAC and Indycar anymore, and I say this as one who grew up watching former USAC'ers at Indy. If anything, maybe rotate out the artwork on the entry pages and such, I mean for the longest time we had Jeff Wards 2001 G-Force, and we've looked at Rodger Wards old 60's RE car for a long time as well.
Don't know that I dig the blood red background so much. Mostly just a personal preference thing there I suppose. I think Track Forum is fine. We just need race cars with open wheels racin' so that we have something to talk about that has some substance.
