  • St. Pete Race Watching Party in Indy

St. Pete Race Watching Party in Indy

We're getting the band back together. Who's in for a get together at Brozinni's Pizzeria? http://www.brozinni.net Two big screens, great audio. I'm working on door prizes and already have some apparel from Andretti Autosport including a Marco autographed hat, DHL RHR hat and AA sweatshirt. More items to be picked up this week and I will update in this thread. TV broadcast starts at 12:30pm. Feel free to show up anytime after they open at 11am. Every attendee gets a door prize ticket. If...

    Fans Tour Ed Carpenter Racing

Ed Carpenter was gracious enough to open his shop to a few of us this morning. Seriously nice guy. Everyone was very impressed with him and the crew we met. We also met Heather and the two kids. I really cannot say enough nice things about the Carpenter family and crew. I finally got my first driver autograph after all this years. I just had to have Ed's after he spent so much time with us. He earned a couple of dozen new fans today. Snapped a few pics and no, I am not a photographer by t...

I love ovals and would love a schedule dominated with them. However I also realize why we don't have it...and again, it's not the series or teams preventing it. I believe there's several reasons all adding up to one big reason for the lack of attendance & ratings.

I don't know why it's so hard for some to realize that the series can't just 'decide' which races it wants and at what tracks it wishes (Las Vegas aside, but I'll get to that). It has absolutely nothing to...

From Glasgow to Indy: TrackForum IndyCar Fans Help Share the 500 Experience

I wrote a blog entry about my trip which you can find here: http://www.infoxicated.com/?p=1210 It's a bit long winded, I'd agree, but I wanted to write down every detail so that in 20 years time I'd be able to read it and refresh my memory of such a wonderful trip. That's the plan, man - it's convincing the other half to let me go that's the problem. Coincidentally, today I've been looking through my pictures and I found this one that made me smile. ...

First Timers Tell their Experiences at the Race!

Loved every minute we were there and will absolutely be back. I don't think we will be able to do it every year, but we will certainly be back many more times. I'd love to take more friends next year. We were only in town from 9:00 Saturday morning until 5:00 Sunday afternoon, but we loved it. We did the grounds tour and museum two summers ago and we both agreed that we were SO glad we'd been there before and already had a chance to gawk, be amazed and take pictures. We would have been totally overwhelmed...

Dear Versus/NBC Sports Network: I Have An Idea For Winter

Dear Sports Programming Gods at Versus/NBC Sports Network: You have an asset in Indy Car that is contracted until Marco Andretti is a salty veteran in that sport. Time to ramp it up. If you want appointment viewers in the Spring, Summer, and Fall, then make the Winter worth your while and sell IndyCar present and past with new programming. Friday nights starting December 1, have a half-hour report on IndyCar (This Week in IndyCar) after the NHL game has concluded. Next, put a retrospect...

  • Professor Joe Sets the Record Straight on Low HP / Hi Downforce Formulae

Professor Joe Sets the Record Straight on Low HP / Hi Downforce Formulae

High-downforce, drag-limited racing has been part of the Indy racing formula since 1997. One of the big changes in going to the IRL spec in 1997 was a reduction in undertray downforce and an increase in wing-generated downforce. Because wing-generated DF causes more drag, they were looking for a car that created greater drag at the same speed and downforce levels of the previous cars. But, the reduction in hp that came with the original 3.5L NA engines relative to the 2.65L turbos of the cart era...

Can't We All Just Get Along??

I've been sitting on the sideline these past few weeks watching the old CART vs IRL battle lines being drawn all over again, so here are the thoughts of someone who loved CART during the early 90s, especially the ovals and has been watching the Indy 500 as long as I can remember.

Things people are throwing around on trackforum:

    - CART/CCWS failed because it was a road racing series - Wrong, it failed because it lost the two things needed to survive,...

The Days I Meet A Hero

The Last 11 days have been difficult for me. I've seen/met drivers that have died before, Colin McRae and Peter Brock, I was sad for them but it didn't have the Same Effect as this one. The First Indy Racing League season i watched was the 2005 season, where Dan was Dominating. Dan soon become on of my favorite drivers from that point on and coming From England was also a bonus. Every Year I go to Goodwood Festival of Speed and every year expect this year the festival has always run on the same...

  • Sad and lonely in Las Vegas

Sad and lonely in Las Vegas

I was excited to have Indycar racing in my adopted home state. I got a free ticket in Sonoma. The Indy lights race was fun and exciting. Then the Indycar race started. High speed two wide racing. Side by side. At 220 miles per hour. And in front of a good crowd of 60,000 people or so. 60,000 people or so who mostly traveled from all over the country to spend a vacation in my home state which suffers from 13% unemployment and the highest foreclosure rate in the nation. 60,000 people w...
